Hello
I’m Carla, the voice behind That Brunette Barrister!
Here, I share insightful articles, practical guidance and motivational content designed to help you break into the world of law.

This space is more than just a blog; it's a community for ambitious aspiring legal minds like you who are dreaming big, asking tough questions, and working hard to shape the future of the law. So whether you're dreaming of becoming a solicitor, barrister or other legal professional, this blog is here to equip you with the tools to make your mark.
My Story
Law wasn’t the obvious choice for me, but looking back, it makes perfect sense!

I grew up watching Judge Judy, admiring her confidence and no-nonsense approach. Those moments planted a seed but the real push towards a career in the law came from my own experiences of bullying and the lack of accountability.

Although I left high school early, and after numerous rejections from the Redbrick Universities, I went on to complete my Law Degree with The University of Law (Manchester) in 2019. In the background, I worked full-time in retail and went on to become a Family Law Paralegal all at the age of 21. Despite applying twice, I was unsuccessful at receiving an Inn of Court Scholarship and so completed the part-time Barrister Training Course (Masters) with BPP in London whilst working full-time. Now for a Manchester girl with limited sense of direction, that involved a lot of long days, late nights, and dragging a suitcase around the Underground!

Now, (at the age of 24) I’ve been Called to the Bar and currently work as a Trainee Legal Advisor in the Magistrates Court - it’s been a tough road but I wouldn’t change anything. My next goal? Securing pupillage.
I started this blog to make the legal world slightly less daunting for those just starting out by sharing my practical advice, real experiences and honest insights.

By sharing my story, I hope my journey makes yours a little easier.
xoxo,
Carla
